There's a reason I even typed in "Jet Set Radio Future" and "The World Ends With You" in my search query. It's not just because I adored both games, it's because I created a personal "scene" that takes the elements of what the two games (and several other media) encompasses and hoped that there were others like me out there. And when I found GrindWorld and read this line...

I knew, once and for all, that I am not alone
But even though I'm not alone, that doesn't mean everyone is as obsessed with this scene as I am.
In fact, I even created a term for this whole "scene" (like the Romantics?) I hope to spread this, as well as spread news of the forum!
Note- 'animemo' has become 'grind fiction' after a few discussions. May change again in the future, but that is its current name. Also with the name change, several elements have been changed as well.
The essay below has yet to be altered, so bear with us.

Grind Fiction

Spoiler:

At the end of the day, Animemo can be surmised in five words- "Youths Having Fun Being Fantastic."
In all essence, animemo is almost like an anime where the characters think they're in an anime! Very Happy
It's Ok that you grew your hair out long and look like some Final Fantasy character or '70s rock, punk, gangsta star. It's Ok that you wear a huge trench coat or a Tron-esque cloak or some outlandish garments, or even just some jeans and a coat you grabbed out of your closet. It's OK that you combine martial arts or wrestling with cyborg enhancements. It's OK you love spray painting walls and streets and helicopters. It's Ok that you have a light saber or a sword or know how to manipulate and levitate things with your mind. It's Ok that you like fighting off equally garish opponents in a Tokyo/Paris/Mediterranean city street/alley. It's Ok that you have a street punk name. It's Ok you love jumping off buildings and onto other builders, or platforms, or planes. It's Ok you like how the sunset on a winter day dyes the world in crimson. It's Ok running off the beaten path, away from the sidewalks, in the middle of a city, just to find what's around the corner. It's Ok to like the fact it's Ok. It's Ok to take pride in liking this fact. It's Ok you like having fun, expressing yourself, and kickstarting a revolution. That, my friend, is what animemo is all about. That, my friend, is animemo.

In conclusion, Animemo is a grand unifying force. Jet Set Radio, Jet Set Radio Future, and The World Ends With You are both animemo. This is an Animemo forum. However, let it be known that both only describe a singular facet of the whole animemo existence. And finally- ANIMEMO DOES NOT MEAN "EMO ANIME." It just rolled off the tongue right at the time, because, if anything, animemo describes anime+grunge+hip hop+techno, not emo.
1-6-13 And now it has been changed to 'Grind Fiction', almost in honor to GrindWorld. Congrats, much?!

There are a few things we're still clinking out. Yeah, I'm the other guy working on Animemo theory. Bite me.

Y'know, we really should post a soundtrack.

Like my iTunes Animemo Playlist? Ok.

Freejazz Theta, not Freejack Theta.
Yup. You are actually the only registered user to review that dinosaur, you know?

I'm just curious most of this looks like your own bio, but I noticed that there are several things that went into animemo.
imo, you probably should have included Final Fantasy. I know the popular imagination of it is that it's like a fantasy anime rpg, but it's actually very cyberpunkish too and also has the long haired hero thing with it and could be considered to be animemo too.
i don't want to call it hippie animemo, but to say it's cyber, magic, and pure animemo kinda makes me giddy because now I feel like the games i love (final fantasy, world ends with you, jet set radio) are finally capable of being categorized properly rather than just being beyond a genre.

Like Tzat said, it's not complete yet. I mean, imagine if, say, middle earth, or anime, or heavy metal, or some other kind of scene was only being tossed around between two people for several years (actually only one, with the second one coming in towards the latter stages of the game). A lot of established canons developed the way they did only because they had large fanbases and/or followers, and animemo doesn't have that yet. I strongly doubt Hippie Animemo will still be called "Hippie" Animemo 10 years from now- I'd rather it didn't!
And I already do know about Final Fantasy's whole animemo vibe. I didn't mention it directly mainly because I felt I was already getting way too excessive with the number of animemo influences, and there's also the fact animemo has a set core of influences anyway (JSR, JSRF, TWEWY, Mirror's Edge, Scott Pilgrim, Durarara, Fooly Cooly, and my own stories, SBDRF and Teknopathe_tik). I'd rather not list every single goddamn thing that went into the making of animemo, you know?

And I feel kind of weird being able to label Jet Set Radio. For a decade, it was beyond labels, much like legendary bands and movies, and animemo just stormed in and said "Ok, Jet Set Radio, you are... Urban, free-skater graffiti animemo." And considering the likes of Teknopathe_tik, which is one of my own stories and is VERY MUCH "inspired" by Jet Set Radio Future, JSR isn't even pushing what is Urban, free-skater graffiti animemo. It's well within the borders.

Yes, it's taken directly from "Teknopathetic", and it's not really all that much like Freejazz Theta, although it's kinda similar. Yeah, actually, it is quite similar. You'd definitely think you were reading related stories.

I don't really want to talk about Teknopathe_tik. It's not a wound or an embarrassment, nor am I particularly worried someone will steal it. It's just that it's nearly impossible to dwell on Tek without going into detail about SBDRF and my personal life, otherwise little about it would make sense.
I will say this, it is EXTREMELY based off of Jet Set Radio Future and has many tints of The World Ends With You- but only an early imagining of that game, when I thought the game was literally about the end of the world.
Although, it wasn't taken to the same extreme like I did in 21 Days of Night... In that stories, the world really was ending and Silver and Blaze from the Sonic fandom were basically Neku and Shiki... But in Teknopathe_tik, the world wasn't actually ending. It was just that several battles were... Agh! It is IMPOSSIBLE to talk about anything of this without going back to SBDRF.

i'll listen!!! I really want to know all about animemo.
i know this is really really weird, but you know the documentary 'metal evolution' on vh1 classic? the guy who did that, sam dun or something said that he did that only because alot of people wanted another documentary he made earlier to be 8 or 9 hours long. that's how i feel about the animemo thing you did. It's great, and I read it like every day (I even want to make my own animemo story now XD) but i'd like to know more about the stories you yourself and the tzat guy did because i feel like a fish out of water when it comes to those stories. i know you were trying to describe it but '3rd wave of animemo' kinda doesn't work on someone who dosn't know a flip about what your talking about XD!

I understand wholeheartedly. Maybe another time though. I'm not trying to discourage you, because I personally think Teknopathe_tik is my Dark Side of the Moon, my Pink Floyd, and I'd love others to know about it and how motherfracking Jet Set Radio Future inspired and avant garde it is, but in order to totally get it across what I was trying to say, I'd need to type up a whole 'nother document and post it like I did with the animemo unveiling. With animemo, the most digging I did was in my closet and in two or three files, and I really typed half of it up on a whim. To do a total revealing of SBDRF, Teknopathe_tik, and other animemo works indigenous only to me, I'd have to do a whole lot more digging and a whole lot more thinking since several parts wouldn't make sense if you left out anything.

PS- I love Metal Evolution. +5 bonus points that you know it.

@ ZeroBeat: I just read through your FanFiction.Net profile. You do know it hasn't been updated in 2 years, right? And that it's completely contradicting itself. I'd recommend changing it.
